Fallout: Equestria is a crossover fan-fiction between the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic television series and the Fallout video game series, and was written by Kkat. First published in April 2011 and completed on Christmas of that year, Fallout: Equestria spans 45 chapters (as well as a prologue, introduction, epilogue, and afterword), and contains over 620,000 words, making Fallout: Equestria one of the longest self-published works of derivative fiction in existence.

It has become one of the most critically well-received derivative works in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic community, and has a substantial cult following that has produced thousands of new works of art, literature, and music dedicated to the fan series.

Pink Cloud is an entropic(无定形的), magical, pink-hued gas that was originally released by bombs deployed by the zebra empire during the Great War to strike Canterlot and eliminate the two Princesses,  Celestia and Luna. It has a deadly effect on living beings, seeping into flesh and lungs, rotting it and melting it, and potentially liquefying bodies into heaps of organic matter. Even slight exposure can lead to severe complications, including organ failure and the permanent fusing of skin to objects in close contact, including clothes, jewelry, and even the ground or a chair if a victim remains still for an extended duration of exposure. It is almost always lethal, though in rare instances a victim can be turned into a particular variant of ghoul known as a Canterlot Ghoul.

Historically, the first usage of Pink Cloud happened as the source of the event known as The Littlehorn Massacre, where a convoy of Zebra Refugees stayed briefly at Luna"s School for Gifted Unicorns. It is unknown exactly how the massacre went down; only that a Zebra Infiltrator that was a part of the convoy had released a Pink Cloud Talisman that enveloped the school grounds and killed everyone within the building.

The Pink Cloud effects on contact with skin and cannot be filtered by re-breathers, gas masks or any other sort of air filter. Damage from Pink Cloud poisoning can be healed by way of normal healing potions. Water absorbs the gas extremely well, and as such, rainwater is able to purify the air of a short period of time, while creating deadly pools of poisonous water. Pink Cloud does not diffuse into water normally, but instead will form streams of the substance that are pink in color.

The Pink Cloud has been slowly absorbed by inorganic matter--buildings, furniture, the earth itself--and is being slowly released into the air, causing Canterlot and several nearby cities (such as Zebratown) to still be hazardous despite the length of time since the gas release. Stables that have endured long-term exposure to the pink cloud were eventually breached due to erosion. Pink Cloud also tends to concentrate in confined spaces where it does not spread as in the natural environment; such pockets are much more deadly than the open air due to density, making the cloud even more lethal than usual.

28. What is Pink Cloud?

A.An Unintended byproduct of witchcraft.

B.To evaluate the risk of contacting Pink Cloud.

C.To explain why Pink Cloud came to exist.

D.To make the history of Pink Cloud more complete

30.Which protective measure is not recommended when exploring Canterlot ruins?

A.Carry medical supplies.

B.Avoid closed place.

C.Minimize clothing .

D.Wear air filters.

31. What does the word “hazardous” probably mean?

A.Secure.

B.Dangerous.

C.Polluted.

D.Messy.

When I first attended Celestia"s School for Gifted Unicorns, I thought that I would find out all of the answers of how and where music began. What I discovered was that the best pieces of us—the artistic, soulful, and melodious pieces—have been lost forever. Equestrian Civilization is over ten thousand years old, and of those ten millennia only the last fifteen hundred years" worth of music has been recorded, preserved, or recited to this day.

What became of the music that is now lost to us forever? How many masterpieces disappeared into the great void of time? Just what kind of prodigies and geniuses exist in the past, and how many of their masterpieces will go unheard? Does the fact that their music no longer resonates in the halls of our kingdom mean that they"ve lost their worth?

Years ago, I became a student of music theory, thinking that I would find answers. What I found instead was that making music is merely a means of proposing questions with our hearts that our minds can"t formulate. Every time we sing or play an instrument, we are searching. Every time we fill the air with notes of rhythm and tonality(音调), we are endeavoring to get in touch with the parts of ourselves that our words cannot contain.

I would like to think that the ponies of ancient times were searching for something just as much as we are in this era. This means to me that even though the music of the past is gone, the drive to simultaneously(同步地) express and discover ourselves is still there. Our entire civilization is the beautiful encore to a symphony that has fallen on deaf ears, but not on unfeeling heartstrings. So long as we are feeling with music—embodying the same curiosity and ambition of our ancestors—then all that is important isn"t forgotten, for we have it locked away in our very pulse.

Today, I play music. I do it because I am also searching. For one, these magical notes that I am endeavoring to construct may be a way to release this curse that has been placed upon me. For another, I am adding to the same heartbeat that has kept a constant rhythm since the beginning of time. So long as I am a part of that, so long as I am making melodies that the Equestrian soul cannot help but dance to, then maybe I have a chance to actually reach somepony.

Maybe, I won"t be forgotten.

24.What can be inferred from paragraph 1?

A.The conservation of music was not launched until the writer entered school.

B.The history of Equestrian music was short compared with that of Equestrian Civilization.

C.Modern musics are of greater aesthetic value than ancient ones.

D.The preservation of music in history failed to satisfy the writer.

25.Which statement might the writer disagree with?

A.Making music is more about questioning than answering.

B.Melody conveys what language can not express.

C.The reasons for creating music differ vastly as time changes.

D.Music has the potential to counteract dark magic.

26.Which words best describe the writer?

A.Devoted and thoughtful.

B.Ambitious and faithful.

C.Arrogant and skeptical.

D.Extrovert and considerate.

27.Where is the passage probably found?

A.In a diary.

B.In a biography.

C.In a scientific journal.

D.In a music textbook.

Now, more than ever, ponies are looking for new and exciting ways to change their appearances.

Once an underground procedure shunned by ponies, in just ten years cutie mark cosmetic(美容) surgery has become the latest controversial beauty trend sweeping across Equestria.

Cosmetic modification of a cutie mark is not a new concept. Ponies have covered or touched up their cutie marks with makeup for centuries, whether for disguise or beautification. However, this requires daily reapplication, since a cutie mark will magically bleed through makeup after 12 to 24 hours. With the exception of very few unicorns, there is no magical spell that can permanently change a cutie mark.

Unlike makeup, surgical modification is permanent, requiring essentially no upkeep. And unlike magical spells or potions, ponies who have cutie mark surgery report little to no side effects. No big personality shifts, no sudden color changes, no major depressive episodes.

The reasons for having cutie mark surgery vary widely. Some ponies may simply “recolorize” their cutie mark to make it stand out more, or to better match their mane. Some ponies retouch their cutie mark to make it more indicative of their natural talents. Other ponies have cutie marks with rather morbid interpretations(恶意解读)—to avoid confusion, they modify their cutie mark’s image using a synthetic skin replacement.

Childhood friends who received linked cutie marks may wish to change them after they drift apart in their adult years. Conversely, ponies who get married may wish to get matching cutie marks as a symbol of unity.

Advocates of the procedure say it helps create a more robust(稳定的)society. Ponies may be more willing to try a variety of skills their marks do not represent, without feeling burdened by their natural cutie mark. They also point out that there is little risk: the surgery is medically safe, requires no magic, and has a quick recovery time.

And more and more ponies are putting their cutie marks under the knife. Saddle Row in Manehattan, named for the fabulous fashion boutiques that once lined the street, is now filled with at least twenty-five independent “cutie mark clinics.”

The sudden rise of this relatively new surgery has made local authorities cautious. To date, no Equestrian city has fully legalized cutie mark surgery. Ponyville, Appaloosa, and Canterlot have outright banned the procedure. Other Equestrian cities, such as Fillydelphia and Manehattan, unofficially tolerate the cutie mark modification clinics, allowing them to operate under the euphemism(委婉说法) of “cutie mark spa” or “cutie mark clinic.”

32.What do we know about the makeup for cutie mark modification?

A.It has great popularity nowadays.

B.It may cause users to bleed.

C.Its effect does not last long.

D.It affects users’ mental health.

33.According to the passage, some individuals choose cutie mark surgery because ____.

A.They hope to boost their talents.

B.Their mark is similar to their loved one’s.

C.They suffer from personality shifts.

D.They feel stressed and seek new possibilities.

34.What opinion does the writer hold towards the new trend?

A.Supportive.

B.Objective.

C.Negative.

D.Cautious.

35. What is the best title for the passage?

A.Cutie Marks Under the Knife: A Special Report

B.Cutie Marks: Why Do We Need Them?

C.The Ban on Cutie Mark Surgery Gets Canceled

D.Design Your Own Cutie Mark: A Guide

There was once a saying that when a stallion wants to get his marefriend an engagement ring, the stubborn rich stallion goes to the finest jeweler in Canterlot and spends thousands of Bits.

(  36  ). What he does is buy the exact same gem at the dragon food stall at the International Food Court.

Dragon foods were traditionally very crudely prepared, reflecting the harsh landscape of their home environment. (  37  ) . But in Equestria, dragons have begun to take more care to balancing flavors and crafting artful dishes, as in pony cuisine. The Dragon Dessert Delights stall, for example, sells shaved ice with crushed gemstone garnish (5 Bits, +2 Bits for extra gems).  ( 38  ) . Kirins, who discovered that they were able to digest dragon foods such as gems, can also be found enjoying these shaved ice desserts.

With the large number of dragons moving into Equestria due to loosened immigration laws, so grew the demand for polished gems for consumption. (Polishing gems is said to greatly improve the taste and mouthfeel of the gems for dragons.)

(  39   ). In less than ten years, there was a sudden and unprecedented dilution(稀释) of the gem market that caused the value of precious stone jewelry in Equestria to decline. Canterlot jewelers, some of them a family business for hundreds of years, saw their business drop by 90% or more. Protests occurred outside the Canterlot Castle.

The dragon food sellers, not wanting to interfere with the gem market, held closed-door talks with the jewelers and came to a provisional solution. (  40  ) . Imperceptible(难以察觉的)to the dragon consumer’s palate(味蕾), but worthless to use in jewelry. This was formalized with the royal decree known as the Precious Gem Market Stabilization Act.

A. The clever poor stallion spends less than one percent of that.

B. But engagement ceremonies in the Dragonlands are much simpler.

C. These gem imports had unintended economic consequences for Canterlot.

D. The gemstones are said to add a sweet taste.

E. Good food for many dragons simply means “high energy” with “lots of gems.”

F. The introduction of dragon cuisine has a great impact on local food industry.

G. The gems at dragon food stalls would be sold with a mark scratched on the surface.

Vinyl Scratch counted the bits she had saved up. According to her calculations, she had just enough to get what she wanted. For the past few months, the little filly did as many chores as she could around the house while juggling her schoolwork. Vinyl had even taken up odd jobs here and there from her neighbors without her parents knowing. She did everything and anything. Nothing was too much for her to handle.

And nothing would stop her from getting what she wanted.

The next day, instead of going home after school, she went to the optometry. It was fancy inside, and pretty empty. Eyeglasses of all shapes and sizes were on display in glass cases. A grumpy unicorn with a pair of eyeglasses for a cutie mark, sat up front, his hooves up on the table as he read through a tabloid. After several minutes with struggling with the door, Vinyl finally mustered enough strength with her weak unicorn magic and her hooves to push open the door, ringing the shop doorbell.

“Welcome to–aw no, not you again!”

“Huh?” Vinyl cocked her head. She had been making weekly visits to the shop, checking out different styles of glasses and frames before finally settling on the one she wanted.

“Are you finally gonna buy something, kiddo? I might have to start charging you just for looking,” chuckled the optician(验光师).

Vinyl Scratch gave her trademark grin and nodded happily. “I’ve got enough this time!” She held up her wallet and shook it for him to see.

“You know which pair you want?”

“Definitely!” She pointed her hoof at her prize on the top shelf where the designer sunglasses were. “The pretty one, with purple lenses(镜片)!”

“Of course.” The unicorn chuckled and levitated the special pair out, floating it down to the expectant filly.“You want anything else?”

“Can I get it with custom lenses?”

“Do you have an old pair?”

“Yeah,” she replied, handing him her old pair of glasses.

Everyone at school teased her about her black round glasses with their ugly thick frames. But as much as she hated her glasses, the thing she hated the most were the color of her eyes. Grownups were too nice to say anything, but they probably thought there was something wrong with her. Foals, on the other hand, didn’t have any problem with telling her that her eyes bothered them.

“That’ll be a hundred bits.”

“WHAT?! You said they were seventy bits!” she shouted, enraged. She jumped up onto the counter and towered over the unicorn. “Are you trying to rip me off?”

“Custom lenses, kiddo!” the optician said. “They don’t come cheap, you know.”

Vinyl sighed and jumped back down, slumped over, her ears drooping low. She didn’t have enough to spare. She shut her eyes and bit her lip, her eyes stinging as tears sprung to her eyes. All that hard work and she still didn’t have enough.
